Her Journey
What were you doing before becoming a Virtual Assistant?
I worked as a Legal Secretary and Admin Assistant, mostly in the shipping industry. I also worked as an Accounts Assistant.
What made you decide to start working online or become a VA?
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I needed to find another form of income, and this opportunity presented itself.
What was the hardest part when you first started?
The hardest part was believing in myself and knowing what services to offer.
What helped you push through those early challenges?
With the help of my coach, Desi-Ann Gordon, and the support of the group, I changed my mindset. I started to believe in myself and think positively.
Life as a Caribbean VA Today
What does a typical workday look like for you now?
I start by giving thanks to God for a new day, then I review emails and messages. Then I focus on client work. My goal is to keep everything running smoothly so my clients don’t have to worry about the details, while still managing my time effectively.
What do you enjoy most about being a Virtual Assistant?
I enjoy the freedom it offers and the feeling of being the solution to someone’s problem.
How has becoming a VA changed your lifestyle or daily life?
It allows me more freedom and control over what I do.
Has remote work given you more flexibility or balance? If yes, how?
Yes. It allows me to manage my time based on deadlines, which gives me the flexibility to choose when and where I work.

Balance and Well-being
What is one thing you’ve learned about yourself since becoming a VA?
I have learned that I am capable and I am not defined by my age.
What habits or routines help you stay balanced while working online?
My routine starts with prayer, then I plan my tasks, and take breaks to maintain balance.
How do you protect your well-being while managing clients and deadlines?
This is still a work in progress, but I am trying to apply self-care whenever possible.
Advice for Other Caribbean VAs

What would you tell someone who feels unsure about starting?
I would tell them that everyone starts feeling unsure. Take that first step, and you will gain confidence as you go.
